The Sampler Consortium is eager for your support

We are a membership organization with a focus on three tightly connected objectives:

  1. Promote the study of antique samplers and related girlhood embroideries;
  2. Increase access to information and research about schoolgirl needlework and early female education;
  3. Design, develop, and support projects that advance the study of samplers and other girlhood embroideries.

Some 2024 accomplishments

  1. Supported the addition of more than 1300 samplers to the Sampler Archive database;
  2. Supported the Vermont Sampler Initiative and its documentation of 787 samplers;
  3. Supported the Dutchess County Sampler Initiative and its documentation of 309 samplers;
  4. Curated “Embroidered Lives: South County Samplers and Their Stories” at the Gilbert Stuart Museum in Rhode Island and wrote the exhibition catalog;
  5. Promoted sampler exhibitions, lectures, publications, and other events through its monthly newsletter and Instagram@SamplerCentral.

New for 2025

  1. Grants for sampler conservation, with priority to objects damaged by catastrophic weather events;
  2. Launching the “Sampler Consortium Forum” on Substack, a free online venue for SC members to publish sampler-related research articles and reports, book & exhibition reviews, interviews with collectors and curators, ongoing investigations, etc.

Please support the Sampler Consortium’s work by donating today. Thank you in advance for your consideration!
